Shenzhen's tech scene changes faster than any travel guide can keep up. In Q2 2026 alone: the new Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum opened with 950+ interactive exhibits, Pony.ai expanded robotaxi coverage into Bao'an district (near the airport), and Meituan launched evening drone delivery routes until 9 PM. Here is everything new that tourists can actually visit or experience, verified by our team this month.

New Attractions Open This Quarter
Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum (深圳科技馆)
The city's largest science museum opened in late 2025 and is now fully operational with all galleries complete:
- Location: Guangming District (Metro Line 6, Science Museum Station)
- Size: 125,000 m² — roughly 4x the size of the old Shenzhen Science Museum
- Exhibits: 950+ interactive displays covering AI, quantum computing, space tech, biotechnology, and smart cities
- English support: Partial — main exhibit labels in English, interactive screens mostly Chinese
- Entry: Free (reservation required via WeChat mini-program or walk-in after 2 PM)
- Hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 10 AM–5 PM (closed Mondays)
Our take: Worth the 45-minute metro ride from Nanshan if you have a full day. The AI and robotics galleries are world-class. Not recommended for a short 1-day visit — stick to Nanshan tech cluster instead.
Unitree H1 Public Demo Space (Nanshan)
Unitree Robotics opened a permanent demonstration area at Inno100 (前海壹号) in March 2026:
- Location: Qianhai, Nanshan District (Metro Line 5, Qianhai Bay Station)
- What's there: H1 humanoid robots walking, G1 robots performing tasks, robot dog demonstrations
- Entry: Free, walk-in during business hours (10 AM–6 PM weekdays)
- Change from before: Previously required appointment; now open access during business hours
We have added this to our Inside Shenzhen Technology tour as a standard stop.
Robotaxi / Autonomous Driving Updates
Pony.ai Coverage Expansion
As of March 2026, Pony.ai expanded its operational zone:
| Zone | Status | New in Q2? | |------|--------|-----------| | Nanshan (Houhai/Qianhai) | ✅ Active | No (since 2023) | | Futian CBD | ✅ Active | No (since 2024) | | Bao'an (airport area) | ✅ NEW | Yes — launched March 2026 | | Longhua | 🔜 Testing | Expected Q3 2026 |
What this means for tourists: You can now take a robotaxi from Nanshan directly to Bao'an International Airport (SZX). The ride takes approximately 25 minutes and costs ¥35–50. Previously you needed to switch to a regular taxi at the zone boundary.
Fleet size update
Pony.ai now operates 3,200+ vehicles in Shenzhen (up from 3,000 in January 2026). Wait times have decreased to 2–4 minutes in Nanshan during off-peak hours.
Drone Delivery Network Changes
Evening Routes Launched
Meituan extended drone delivery hours at Talent Park and Shenzhen Bay Park:
- Previous hours: 10 AM – 7 PM
- New hours: 10 AM – 9 PM (at select stations)
- Stations with evening service: Talent Park Station A, Shenzhen Bay Park Promenade Station
Impact: Our 4 PM tour slot now includes drone delivery with sunset timing — order a drink, watch the drone arrive against the evening sky over Shenzhen Bay. This has become the most photographed moment on our tours.
New Delivery Stations
Two new drone landing pads added in Q2:
- OCT Harbour East (near the waterfront restaurants)
- Shenzhen Bay Sports Center (near the concert venue)
Total active stations in Nanshan: 18 (up from 16 in Q1).
New Robot Restaurants & Cafes
Orbit One Update
The AI-powered restaurant at One Avenue mall (Nanshan) updated its robot fleet:
- New serving robots with voice interaction (responds to basic English commands)
- Added robotic barista station (makes latte art using a 6-axis arm)
- Menu expanded to include Western breakfast items (8 AM–11 AM)
Pudu Robotics Cafe (New)
A new concept cafe opened in Houhai featuring Pudu's latest service robots:
- Location: Houhai Coastal City mall, 3F
- Concept: Order via tablet, robot delivers to your table + performs a short "dance"
- Price: Normal cafe prices (¥25–45 for coffee)
- Tourist-friendly: Menu has English, payment accepts Alipay International
Tech Museum & Exhibition Updates
DJI Sky City — New Flight Simulator
DJI added a new multi-player flight simulator experience in February 2026:
- What: VR-based drone racing against other visitors
- Cost: ¥50 per 10-minute session
- English: Full English interface available
- Our take: Fun addition, especially for kids. The RoboMaster shooting range remains the highlight.
Huawei Flagship — Tri-Fold Phone Demo
The Huawei flagship at MixC World added dedicated demo stations for the Mate XT tri-fold phone:
- Visitors can handle the device and test the three-screen modes
- This phone is not sold outside China, making it a unique hands-on opportunity
- Staff speak some English and enjoy showing off the folding mechanism

What's Closed or Changed
Things that travel guides have not updated yet:
- Old Shenzhen Science Museum (Futian): Now closed permanently. Replaced by the new Guangming facility. Several online guides still list it as open.
- Tencent Visitor Center: Currently closed for renovation, expected to reopen Q3 2026. If a tour advertises "visit Tencent HQ," verify this is still available.
- Some Huaqiangbei buildings: The 2nd floor of Yuanwang Digital Mall (远望数码城) is under renovation. Components shopping should target SEG Plaza floors 3–5 instead.
Updated Recommendation: Our Current Favorite Route

Frequently Asked Questions
How often does Shenzhen's tech scene change?
Significantly — every 2–3 months. New showrooms open, robotaxi zones expand, drone routes launch, and some attractions close without notice. This is why we publish quarterly updates and why guided tours (with guides who verify locations weekly) have an advantage over static travel guides.
Is the new Science & Technology Museum worth the trip from Nanshan?
Only if you have a full day or are particularly interested in exhibits. It is 45 minutes by metro from Nanshan (where all other tech attractions are concentrated). The AI and robotics galleries are world-class, but for a short Shenzhen visit (1–2 days), your time is better spent in the Nanshan tech cluster.
Can I experience all the new additions in one day?
The Nanshan additions (Unitree demo space, extended drone hours, DJI simulator) fit easily into our standard 2.5-hour tour. The Science Museum in Guangming and the airport robotaxi expansion require separate half-days.
What should I skip if I only have 3 hours?
Skip the Science Museum (too far) and Huaqiangbei (needs at least 2 hours to be worthwhile). Focus entirely on the Nanshan tech cluster: robotaxi → drone delivery → DJI → Unitree → one flagship store. This gives maximum "wow factor" per hour.
Are these changes reflected in online tour listings?
Not always. GetYourGuide and TripAdvisor listings update slowly. Always check directly with your tour operator whether specific experiences (especially Unitree showroom and extended drone hours) are included in their current itinerary.
Will there be a Q3 update?
Yes — planned for July 2026. Major expected changes include Longhua robotaxi zone opening, potential new autonomous bus routes, and CHTF 2026 preview information.
